What is YouthVotePhilippines

YouthVotePhilippines is a network of progressive, reform-minded youth groups and organizations working toward voter's education and empowerment. It is an alliance pushing for a 2016 issue-based elections, using the Sustainable Development Program(UNDP) known as the Global Goals(Sustainable Development Goals) as a framework, a baseline measure of human development. It is also a call-to-action for a Filipino youth to become engaged and involved in nation building. It aims to develop online and on-the-ground programs and events that will give young Filipinos the power of the vote and clear voice for their collective aspirations. 

Section 1, Article V of the 1987 Constitution to wit

"Suffrage may be exercised by all the citizens of the Philippines not otherwise disqualified by law, who are at at least eighteen years of age, and who shall have resided in the Philippines not otherwise disqualified by law, who are at year, and in the place wherein they propose to vote, for at least six months immediately preceding the election. No literacy, property, or other substantive requirement shall be imposed on the exercise of suffrage."

Our Mission

YVP hopes to contribute to the achievement of the MDG’s through a four-point program of action framework, consisting of: 1) Early promotion of Voter’s Registration; 2) Grassroots-level Voter’s Education, Provision of an online portal for a comprehensive candidate profiling; and 4) the development of a youth agenda for policy-making and action.

The YVP network serves as a call-to-action for the Filipino youth to become engaged and involved in nation-building, a continuous process which must never lose its momentum and optimism in the course of promoting citizen participation and empowerment especially with this young generation.
